Hello, Hump Day!

Hiya, Wednesday! We love 'second week Wednesdays,' because they mean that Dada will be home to us in just a few short days, and -- let's face it -- everything is a lot more fun when our family is whole. 

This week so far, some of us wore mermaid costumes for the great majority of our waking hours (sorry to disappoint, but "some of us" = Maile). We made pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. We explored Hudson Gardens (the best time of year to meander this lovely, free! venue). We ate too many biscuits (with copious amounts of gravy) for breakfast. This week has been good.

Other plans include a girls date with our friend Shea, a yard sale with neighbors (so exciting, I know), and some new material for Real Oilfield Wives.

Blog Spotlight + A Giveaway Winner

I just love spotlighting my favorite blogs, and today I'm sharing with you one of my very, very favorite new-to-me blogs. At the time of writing, Brittany, of This Beautiful Life, is just 2 followers away from 400. (Hooray!) Seeing that number, though, I have to admit that I'm surprised. A blogger as sweet as Brittany should be inching toward 1000. For serious.

At first glance, This Beautiful Life may seem to be one thing or another -- mainly giveaways, primarily spiritual posts, recipes ... As you spend more time with Brittany, though, you realize that she is all of these things, and so much more! She's generous, with a heart for Jesus and an adorable desire to be the queen of her kitchen.

Yesterday, Mr. M and I took Maile for a special lunch at Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers. Now, Freddy's is a chain, but it's also pretty darn good (much better than any of the local places we've tried), and about as close as it gets to -- dare I say better than? -- our beloved In-N-Out Burger. We love it.

Every time we eat at a burger joint that features fry sauce (one part ketchup to two parts mayo, sometimes with seasoning), or even make our own at home, we fall into this discussion: Who invented fry sauce? My LDS friends insist that fry sauce is a Utah thing. Yes, the Utah-based Arctic Circle claims that they invented fry sauce, and Wikipedia seems pretty comfortable giving them credit for the delicious condiment. But most of our Northern California friends haven't ever set foot in The Beehive State, and have grown up with fry sauce. And, of course, Mr. M claims that fry sauce is actually his brainchild ... something he came up with as a boy. ;)
