Embrace the Camera

Today, I'm linking up with Emily, of The Anderson Crew, for her weekly Embrace the Camera feature. Some of you may have read this essay, published by The Huffington Post. Well, Emily was ahead of the game. She like, so, totally, already came up with that. ;) She also has one of my favorite blogs. But I digress ...

Embrace the Camera is about encouraging mamas to get in the picture, instead of always being the one taking the photos! Your littles want to see pictures of you with them! Now. And they will again someday, as older children, or adults.

This picture was taken yesterday, in front of the Denver Zoo's Lorikeet Adventure exhibit, where my new friend Helen graciously offered to take a family photo for us. It's not perfect. I'm standing awkwardly. My shirt is doing something weird. Maile isn't looking at the camera. Her shirt is doing something weird. Yet it's perfect. Because it's us. In the moment. As a family. And it really doesn't get much better than that.

You can get the dealio on Embrace the Camera here. I encourage you to participate!

    1. Thank you, Marie! You're so sweet. Mr. M actually gets the credit for Maile's hair here -- He dressed her, and did her hair, for our day at the zoo.

  2. You have the most precious family! What a fun day at the zoo. Oh, and I think the picture looks absolutely perfect. One to be treasured for years to come, I'm sure! <3

    1. Thanks, friend! We are almost guaranteed a good time when we go to the zoo. Maile loves it, and usually walks most of the way!

  3. Awww I love it. I'm kind of the same way, I'm always behind the camera, it's difficult to get in the pictures though, because I'm kind of a perfectionist, so if I could take the photo of myself then I would love it, but when other people take them, for some reason I feel like they are doing it wrong, and I don't like how they turn out, so then I make them take like 100...Idk it's a problem... :(

    1. Haha! Usually, I go for another take or two, too, but this one wasn't bad, so I figured I'd stick with it. ;)

I'm a recovering perfectionist, too. Hehe.

  5. Love this pic! I have been doing a lot more pics with me in it (big ole pregnant self and all) for the same reason...our kids will want to see it one day! My insecurities are not a good excuse to deprive them of that, because what I look like doesn't matter...it's the fact that I was THERE, with them, for them, always :)

    1. Thanks! Also, um, you look fantastic! My 4'10" self gained 42 lbs with Maile ... and I was really healthy! Doom. But like you say, what matters is that we are there, spending time with our kiddos -- That's all they care about!
