Well, I like to say ... technically ... that we're high school sweethearts. 'Cause I was still in high school when we met. Except Tim wasn't. In the non-creepiest way possible. Tim is anti-creepy. Promise.
You see, I was a 17 year-old Army brat. He was a 20 year-old GI.
And the story goes ...
And the story goes ...
GI walks into movie theater. Girl behind concession stand gives GI's buddy a hard time about his 49ers hat (because who likes the 49ers?). Cowboys fan GI is intrigued. GI spends half the movie he intended to see refilling his soda so he can talk to girl. GI gives girl phone number. Girl's best friend rips up number.
You see, girl's (officer) dad had a rule about GIs. That rule being: no dating them.
But GI doesn't give up. He keeps coming back to visit girl. Girl eventually tells officer dad about GI. Officer dad says GI may "come to call" on girl, as long as GI gives girl his social security number, so officer dad can run a background check on GI. Not. even. joking. To girl's complete and utter shock, GI gives girl those 9 magical digits. GI checks out. Officer dad calls almond-eyed GI "Pineapple Boy" until the wedding 3 years later.
And they lived happily ever after ... Or something even better.
(Oh! For the record, girl is a die-hard Packers fan. And this photostrip is a pretty perfect representation of our relationship.)
Love it! And new respect for your dad! I'm so hoping that Mr. M eventually runs a background check on Maile's potential suitors!!
ReplyDeleteOh come on! I more than made up for ripping up the phone number...right? haha...love you guys.
ReplyDeleteThat's so cute! Daddy's can be a bit protective of their baby girls :) I know it well!
ReplyDeleteThey sure can! Thanks, Kayla!
DeleteI'm a fan of the Cowboys fan GI :)
ReplyDeleteHaha! Me too. I'm his biggest fan, I like to think!
DeleteTruth be told, I have a soft spot for the Cowboys, too. The Romo/Witten bromance is just too much for me to handle -- it's flippin' adorable.
What a cute way to tell the story, and I love what your dad did :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Shannon!
DeleteThat made me laugh s much. Your Dad sounds awesome :) P.s very happy I found you blog
ReplyDeleteYeah, my dad is a pretty great guy! Haha.
DeleteThank you so much, Bianca! I can't wait to check out your blog. :)
Hah! Love this! My husband and I are also highschool sweethearts, and my dad took him for a ride for the "date talk" on the very first night we hung out at my house. Talk about nearly having a heart attack. He didn't run for the hills though, so I knew he was a keeper! ;)
ReplyDeleteHey Hannah! I'm so sorry that I'm just seeing your comment now ... Ugh! Frustrating.
DeleteAnyway, that cracks me up about your dad taking your hubby on a ride! We also had looots of monitored "dates" at my house. Sometimes my parents would even send my baby sister (who was 9 when we first started dating, but is now a freshman in college!) along with us on real dates! Talk about overprotective ... but as you say, Tim didn't run for the hills. Obviously he was a keeper!
Merry Christmas to you!
Aww a beautiful love story. Nice to find your space here, I look forward to getting to know you more, Natalie x
ReplyDeleteThanks, Natalie! I'm looking forward to getting to know you better, as well.

Awww, thanks Ashley!
DeleteHaha! Yes, we definitely joke that Tim will be MUCH worse than my dad, when the day comes that Maile starts dating. Thank you for stopping by!
