"A portrait of my daughter, once a week, every week, in 2013."

Maile: Her first pony ride, at the local Punkin Chunkin and fall festival.

I've made a personal goal to spend less time 'connected' -- on the computer, my phone, social media. Along with this goal, I have another, to make the time I do spend online more engaged and meaningful.

I appreciate that you're still visiting me here, as I figure all this out, and have come to realize that you, my friends, aren't here for flashy posts and giant giveaways; you're here because you care, which is amazingly humbling, and encourages me to get back to the basics of blogging. About and for my family, and about and for our friends, be they 'real life,' or the ones we've made here.

  3. I love this! She looks so little, yet so big at the very same time.... And you know what? I blog for me. For my family who are all 600+ miles away. You would be amazed at the number of times I refer back to my little place on the www milestones: first word, first tooth, family traditions, etc. And I'm very happy with that! :)

  4. I guess that's what I'm doing too, because my online time is waaaaay down these days. But I do always click through to your posts. :) There are a few friends whose stuff I don't want to miss and you're one of them. :)

  7. Yes! I always find that on the days that I keep my phone locked away, I am a much better parent--more engaged, more patient, less irritable. It's just so hard--the temptation to be constantly connected is too great. It's definitely my goal to cut back way more. And, this is a great reminder of why I started blogging in the first place. I've been feeling the pressure to keep up with "flashier" blogs, and it's causing me some anxiety. I end up not writing at all because I feel like nothing's interesting enough! But at the end of the day, I'm doing this to document my life and the simple, honest posts are the ones that are going to mean the most to me. xo!
