"A portrait of my daughter, once a week, every week, in 2013."
Maile: Solemn, as ever. We found an (intact) robin's egg, apparently fallen, or dropped, and she was overcome with worry about where the "mama tweet-tweet" was ...
As ridiculous as the wondering is, I often find myself wondering if Maile is happy. In my heart I know she is, of course, but in my heart I also know that she is so very much like me. She's a worrier, and I worry about her worrying. She worries about me. She worries about her Dada. She worries about our dogs, and cat. She worries about her friends. She worries about children she doesn't even know, when we're out and about and she hears a crying little one.
All this worry stems from her very real, very deep sense of caring. When she hugs, she pulls you in, and pats or rubs you on the back. This wasn't something we taught her, it's simply something she does. I often wake to the sound of her little voice mumbling, "Mama, nuggles." (The 's' is silent, for now.) To her wee arms trying their best to wrap around me completely. When Tim returns home from work, she insists that he hold her for an entire day. The first few hours he's home are usually quiet, the silence broken by an occasional exclamation of "Dada hoooooooome."
Like all almost two year-olds, she's also developing her voice, pushing boundaries. I hear "No!" about 15 times a day, which is both cruel and hilarious, because we try our best not to use that word with her. But she is so, so thoughtful, this little lady of ours. I hope that I can teach her to let go of her thoughts sometimes, and just laugh, smile ... be. A lesson I'm still learning myself.

Thanks, Holli!
DeleteHer skin just kills me. She has Hawaiian in her, so I do believe she'll always have gorgeous skin. :)

beautiful, she looks deep in thought x
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lisa!
DeleteShe was ... For the next hour, she was completely preoccupied with trying to find the mother robin. ::sigh:: I know explaining certain things is only going to get harder from here on out!
oh wow LOVE her hairband, and the little bit of the dress I can see! x
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Fritha! Both are from a lovely shop called OAK (whose ad you'll find in my sidebar). I hope you'll check it out! Paige makes beautiful things.
DeleteIsn't it funny how our children are just "meant" to come to us? My mother and grandmother are constantly commenting on how eerily similar Kara is to me, mannerisms, preferences and all. The biggest thing I've noticed lately is that she wants so hard to be social and jump right in with the other kids (and most of the time she does), but there's only so much she can handle before wanting to come home and just be with us in the quiet. Geez, she is a mini me!
ReplyDeleteIt is.
DeleteMaile is a lot like Kara (and you, and me) when it comes to social situations. She already handles adults a lot better than she does children her own age, too.
It's funny ... I'm always wanting her to relax more. To let loose and just be a little girl. But I have trouble doing those things myself, and they are our little mirrors, aren't they?
She is beautiful, such a trendy baby!

Thank you so much, Harri!
DeleteSo pretty! I love her dark eyes and hair. Sometimes I think our kids are more like us than we want them to be. They turn into individuals so very quickly.
ReplyDeleteSo very true, Meagan! And thank you!
DeleteShe's adorable...the joys of raising a little girl...they are much more emotional and "complicated" to figure out...but wow, they bring us so much joy huh?

Amen, my friend!

So pretty thoughts!! I also have a 2 year old and it's amazing how being that young they can express that much with a hug and their eyes. Beautiful shot!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Gaby!
