Friday's Letters

Dear Internet, Maybe it's because motherhood has changed me. I'm still direct, frank, honest -- but much less combative. Maybe it's because having a toddler means I have someone watching me every waking moment, mimicking my every move. Maybe it's the way Tim teases me with such love, or the way he still sometimes stares at me across a restaurant table ... that stare that makes me slightly uncomfortable, that makes me break the silence with a challenging, "What?" "You're just beautiful," he says. But this internet is getting awfully big to me. More disagreeable, more taxing, more fatiguing. As someone who's kind of a "junkie", I keep telling myself that it's a good thing that I'm feeling the urge to take a step back and just ... be. You know, sort of like I'm being called to positiveness and simplicity and family and love.

Dear Root Beer, When you haven't tasted certain things for awhile, they just aren't the same anymore. Root beer. Tim brought me some the other night, when I had a hankering for a root beer float. It wasn't good. I even tried a sip of a local brew yesterday afternoon. It still wasn't good; it was unfortunate, because I was really looking forward to that root beer float! ;)

Dear Me, We are going to have a two year-old running around this house in less than 3 months.

Dear Maile, Please stop growing!

Dear Popcorn, I am kind of obsessed with you right now. Like, must-have-a-half-a-bag-bedtime-snack-every-night obsessed.

Dear Bookworm, Trying to finish a book is about a million times harder when you're a parent.

The idea for this post came from the lovely Ashley, of The Sweet Season.

  1. the last line for dear bookworm, i read a little too fast and thought it said: 'it's a trillion times harder when you're pregnant.'

  5. I like your thoughts on the internet. it does seem that everything out there is more and more negative. it's nice to read and follow blogs that put out positive inspirational content.

Also... I second your feelings towards popcorn. I literally eat some everyday. Have a good weekend!!

    1. Thanks, Shannon! I completely agree with you, and I've trimmed my "must-read" list of a blogs a bit to reflect that.

Hope you have a great weekend, too! Thanks so much for leaving a little love.

  6. I did the exact same thing as ^Leah!! I read that you were pregnant and thought "what?! Is this her way of announcing it or have I missed something?!" hahaha!

I'm at the exact same place on the internet issue, which is one of the reasons I've been taking a step back, and you know what? It feels really really good!!

That picture of Maile is adorable! Love! xo

    1. Gah! No ... I wish! I am experiencing serious bump envy right now. :)

You seem to have SUCH a great thing going when it comes to balancing your home and family life with the internet. It's super easy to get sucked into checking my phone every 2 minutes, or hopping online "just for a second" throughout the day. One thing I've noticed though, is that even though I excuse it as somehow being productive, I'm not as happy when that's how my days play out. Over the past two weeks or so, I'll hop on Instagram to post a photo, but I've had the laptop tucked away in a cabinet, and I totally agree -- it's felt so good!

      Love ya!

  7. Ugh...totally hear you on the first letter to the internet. People can be so negative and even if it's not their intent, they can come off as rude or disheartening. Confession: some corners of the world wide web even make me jealous and cause me to question myself and my own ability and THAT....that is not okay. I feel called to the same thing, Katie. Love and positivity and joy and lovely things. Love ya xoxo

    1. Oh girl, God has given you a wonderful talent! I know you know that, but I also know that it helps to have others tell you these things from time to time. :)

Love ya, too! Hope you're having a great weekend!

  8. There are so many opposing views lately on the blogs I read, too. It is interesting but not always respectful. I think I need a root beer float now... :)

    1. I think you hit the nail on the head: "It is interesting but not always respectful." I find points on both sides that I agree with. I have also been convicted by some of these posts to make some minor changes here (a good thing). At the end of the day, though, I think the most important thing is fostering a sense of community!

I hope you enjoyed that root beer float. ;)

  12. Aw! If you don`t have something for a while, you want it to taste better, not worse! I am craving diet coke right now, and it better be amazing when I finally get some!

Love that photo, by the way!
