It was a blizzardy day, much too wintry and wet to go outside. After I cancelled our library story time spot, and told a new friend we'd meet her for a meal another day, we meandered through our morning. Eggs at 9. Pineapple at 10. The last, long-cold drops of coffee (for me) around 11.
According to Maile, even untamed bedhead requires an elephant bow.
Making a half-hearted attempt at productivity, I stripped the bed. For the next hour, a very ordinary, discounted down comforter became a magic carpet, transporting a small, malleable mind to lands of princesses and dwarfs, trees that talk, little girls who eat too many pink cupcakes ... and assuring her of the everlasting love of Jesus.

Whether right-side or wrong-side up, books are best read when one accessorizes with stickers.
Snowstorms make me want to bake, and I have the best assistant. When the outside seems so wild and unsafe, few things are more comforting than a from-scratch batch of chocolate chip cookies.
Our treats warmed the house, our two spaniels lingering, then laying near the oven ... absorbing every last one of its toasty waves of heat.

We took a delicious nap. The kind you're in no rush to wake from.
It doesn't get much better, for a Saturday snow day.

Sounds like a beautiful day. I love seeing people grab hold of the moments that beg them to stay inside and enjoy one another's company. And chocolate chip cookies. They truly are the best. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, Katie! Cold days make me want to bake, too! Which is why it is a good thing that I live in the desert. Those cookies look yumm!
