Yesterday we found ourselves at Genghis Grill, where Maile enjoyed her first udon noodles -- or rather, jacked her first udon noodles from her Dada's bowl.
It's fun to watch this girl try so many new foods, and like them. I'm so proud to say that Baby Girl has such a varied (dare I say sophisticated?) palate. I know that the foods she enjoys will probably change over time, and that, like most littles, she'll go through a picky phase. But right now, she eats everything from kiwifruit to homemade Southern-style biscuits, chèvre to fresh crab. I mean, Maile loves to dip her quesadilla "soldiers" in green chile sauce, and even enjoys small amounts of Sriracha on her scrambled eggs. Hooray! I just love her ...
that's crazy how young she is but how many different foods she'll try and will actually like. my parents never really made anything than basic stuff, but my husband and I are big fans of flavour so I hope our kids aren't too picky.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't exposed to too many flavors as a kid either (sorry Mom!). I didn't really start adding variety until I met Tim, and it took him a few years to get me to the point where I would at least *try* anything once.
DeleteThat's awesome she's such a great eater :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Shannon! Hopefully I didn't "jinx" it by posting. ;)
DeleteIt's beautiful that, first and foremost, you EXPOSE her to all kinds of foods! A lot of parents assume that their child won't like certain things, so they won't even try serving them. I say throw all the spaghetti (er, udon!) to the wall and see what sticks! ;)
ReplyDeleteHehehehe ... I like that! We've chosen not to shelter her from anything, except those foods that might be unsafe for her to eat -- I have to say, I think it's paying off!
DeleteHehehe, that is too amazing. Hopefully she keeps this way of trying new things! I have a hard time feeding Jeremy just about anything. And, he hates eggs... sigh..
ReplyDeleteAw man ... Well, it's probably silly for me to offer you advice, since Jeremy is so close to Maile in age, but I think the best advice we received was simply to keep offering her variety. Some days she won't touch anything we give her, but other days (like every day this week, it seems) she devours it all! It's true that a bit of food goes to waste, but I think it's for a good cause. :)
DeleteAnd gosh ... Maile will eat eggs in ANY form. LOL!
love that she's into all of that delicious food...'atta girl, Maile! :)
ReplyDeleteIt's one of those silly little things that I'm pretty proud of, especially since she's also still nursing. I can't tell you how many times I've heard that I'm ruining her, that she's going to be a picky eater, by letting her "extended" nurse -- I definitely feel a small sense of victory from all the foods she eats!
DeleteI bet it is so fun to watch her try new foods and watch the reaction. She is way too cute!
ReplyDeleteIt really is a lot of fun! We also gave her her own potsticker during this visit, and though we let it cool thoroughly, the dipping sauce had a bit of a kick to it. When she dipped her potsticker and tried it, she smiled, but then opened her mouth with a "Haaaaaaahhhh ..." I was afraid she might not want anymore, but she dipped every single bite after that!
DeleteThank you so much, Jenna!
aghh she is too adorable!
ReplyDeleteand you're right, her palate will probably change over time, but it's good that she's trying so many things at such an early stage!
Thank you, thank you, Morgan!
DeleteSuch a cute picture!
