We had a lovely belated Christmas here at home, with Tim's mom. I love spending this time of year with family, remembering the Reason for the Season, eating good food (waffles!), finally having a good excuse to inhale my weight in chocolate, and enjoying the Colorado snow.
Maile must've sensed mine and Tim's anticipation, because she was up at 5:50 on "Christmas" morning. We didn't mind one bit, we were so excited to see her open gifts.
I reused paper from last year, and everyone was assigned their own. White for Tim, red for Maile, and pink and green for me. Tim and I have had many, many discussions about what Christmas will be like for Maile, and although anticipation is probably one of the funnest things about Christmastime, we want to make sure it is the right kind of anticipation! The anticipation of the birth of our Lord and Savior! Or, as Maile calls Baby Jesus, "Bee-bee Juice."
We decided on a few, meaningful gifts for Maile -- the two biggest being a Radio Flyer Classic Tricycle (which I scored for half price on Zulily), and a Bigjigs Fairy Town Train Set (which I also bought on Zulily, for about 60% of the regular price) -- gifts that will last, that can be handed down, and that Maile will be able to enjoy for a couple of years, at least. We couldn't have asked for more when it came to her reactions. On first sight of her train set, she gasped with excitement and said, "Toot toot?!" as if to ask, "Is it real? Is it for me?" It. was. awesome.
I hope you all are enjoying the beginning of this new year! Surrounded by loved ones, and good food, too!
PS - If you're new here, Tim is a driller an an oil rig. Living life as a roughneck wife means improvisation -- and lots of it! Calendar rearranging is often involved. ;)
love that last picture of her tearing that wrapping paper. and 'bee-bee juice' - awww!
ReplyDeleteHaha! Yes, it's one I need to write down somewhere, for sure. Thanks, Leah!
DeleteSuch a fairytale Christmas tree! :)

Thank you, Gita! And here I was thinking it was kind of sad ... hehe.
DeleteSo glad you guys finally got your awesome family Christmas!! Is Maile loving her trike??
ReplyDelete♥ Kyna
Yeah! It was so much fun. Maile's feet reach the peddles of her trike, but her legs aren't quite long enough to peddle a full rotation yet. She still likes to try (and being pushed around the house on it) -- I think it'll be perfect by spring! :)
Deletethat photo of her unwarapping a present is cool. Love her onesie too x
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lisa! If you're interested in doing your own, I did it here: http://picasion.com/ I actually had no intention of making a gif until I was going through the pictures, and noticed that those two kind of "flowed." :)
DeleteI actually thrifted her PJs from a great, local secondhand store for kids. I think it was something like 50 cents, and in great condition -- I just couldn't say no to that!
so magical i love christmas time and your pretty tree!
ReplyDeleteThank you, sweet Sharstin!
DeleteChildren's reactions are priceless. I had my two nieces down for Christmas, the look on the ones face when she opened her My little pony castle was amazing. Squeals and all! Glad you had a lovely time & Happy New Year xxx

Aren't they, though? If you can believe it, I think Christmas is even better as a mama.
DeleteHappy New Year to you, Harri! <3
I love that you guys kept it simple, especially with the gifts. Everyone typically gets their kids mounds and mounds of things!! It drives me CRAZY!! It shouldn't be about how BIG of a mountain of crap you can buy for them at the store - it's meaningless that way. Thanx for sharing, I love your Christmas!!
ReplyDeleteThanks lady! Yeah, the seriously overflowing piles of presents get me, too. Everyone parents differently, I know, but I just don't see how that's necessary in any way. I'd rather spoil Maile with love than a whole bunch o' STUFF!
Deletelooks like u had a great time! I have a Chicnova Jewelry giveaway for 3 lucky winners on my blog..wld love it if you drop by!

ReplyDeleteThanks so much for following, Brittany!
DeleteHee Hee that GIF is soooo cute of her opening a present :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Steph! <3
DeleteThat GIF is the best! I need to try one of those! I love that tricycle! Andrew got one for his second birthday that's he's outgrown now, but Caroline has taken right to it! Maile will love it!
ReplyDeleteYou should definitely try one, Meagan! I used to think I knew quite a bit about computers, and then I started blogging. ;) ... but GIFs are really easy.
DeleteI'm so excited about Maile's trike. I can't wait for spring!
