I've had quite a few friends ask me lately, "What are Maile's favorite books?" There are so, so many great ones ... and many more I'd still like to add to our collection, but the books Maile absolutely loves are pictured above. What are your favorite children's books? I'd love some more suggestions ...

My niece loves The Monster at the End of the Book. I always had a soft spot for Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, The Berenstain Bears, and anything by Kevin Henkes or Mercer Mayer.
ReplyDeleteA mom at Barnes & Noble, today, was telling me about The Monster at the End of the Book ... it seems I need to look into that one!
DeleteMaile has my entire collection of Berenstain Bears books available to her at my parents' house. I just know she'll love them the next time we visit!
Love your other suggestions, too. Maile actually somewhat reminds me of Kevin Henkes' Lilly character, already. :)
I'm so happy the one we gave her made it into her favorites list. I feel special. :)
ReplyDeleteShe even picks it out at Barnes & Noble sometimes! I have to remind her that we have it at home -- AND in the car now, too!
DeleteOh I miss this stage of these fun books! We always read a book called Time for Bed Elmo, and The Giving Tree was another big read. When Jay got a bit older we read a book called We Can't Sleep a ton, and we still do from time to time. Enjoy this special time with Maile :)
ReplyDeleteOh man, Maile LOVES Elmo. She just has one small Elmo board book that I found in the Target $1 section. I love The Giving Tree. Maile enjoys the illustrations, but I think the book is a bit "old" for her right now. I can't wait until she's old enough to really love it, like I do! I'll have to look up We Can't Sleep. Thanks for the suggestion, friend!
DeleteI love the Oh David books. they're a lot of fun.
ReplyDeletebut my most favorite book is 'the giving tree' by Shel Silverstein. it's kind of a tear jerker.
Yes, I love The Giving Tree, too! We do own it ... I can't wait until Maile grows into the story; it's so, so beautiful.
DeleteEllie loved one at Maile's age called "Yummy, Yucky"...right now, she is TOTALLY into Dr. Seuss books! So much fun to read them with her!

Ooohhh, I'll have to look up Yummy, Yucky! That just sounds like something Maile would enjoy. :)
DeleteMaile loves the illustrations in Dr. Suess books, but the only one she'll sit all the way through right now is Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You? All the noises and animals keep her attention!
She brings Green Eggs and Ham to me a lot, but she only sits through like the first 15 pages or so ... Dr. Suess books are long!
xo
ohhh, we love so many of these books as well! what a great list you have.
ReplyDeletethe book "on the night you were born" makes me cry...it's such a sweet, sweet book.
i'm really going to miss it when James isn't into these books anymore. :(
Me too! I'd never heard of it, but we were gifted it before Maile was born, and I loved it immediately.
DeleteMy favorites (which aren't included) are Corduroy, Alexander and the Terrible..., Madeline, Caps for Sale, Dr. Seuss, Polar Express, and of course... Everybody Poops :)

Oh, fantastic! Thanks for the link! :)
DeleteWe own Madeline (and Madeline's Christmas), as well as a few Dr. Suess titles. The Polar Express, too.
Caps for Sale! I love that one! I'm going to have to find that. Corduroy and Alexander, too. Is it weird that I'm the mother of a toddler, and I don't know about Everybody Poops? For some reason, I think Maile would love that one -- Ha! It's the stage she's at.
Thanks again for sharing that link, and for stopping by!
I love all those books you have listed, they are great ones. My toddlers (not my kids but my students) love all the Little Critter books by Mercer Mayer and also Good Boy Fergus by David Shannon. There are definitely many great title out there.
